Design acceptance, installed-system certificates and the authority’s completion document serve different purposes. Ask who issues the requested document, what it covers and which application depends on it.
Identify the document and its issuer
“Fire-fighting certificate” is too broad to identify one universal document. DCD’s completion application includes supporting fire-alarm and other installation records; those supporting records should not be confused with the authority’s own completion decision.
Gather the certificate and project references
Gather the actual document title, issuer, project reference, date and stated scope. For an existing property, ask for the available design and completion records rather than relying on a verbal description.
Check the scope and stage
Identify the issuer
Distinguish an authority document from a contractor or system record.
Identify the stage
Clarify design, installation, inspection or completion.
Check the scope
Confirm the building, unit and systems covered.
Check acceptance
Ask the receiving authority which exact document it requires.
Confirm validity and acceptance
Renewal and validity depend on the actual document and service. Do not apply one validity period to every certificate or assume a system test record by itself authorises occupancy.
